Neighbors can be a beautiful relationship. If you're close enough with them, you can ask them for favors like borrowing a cup of sugar or having them hold onto a spare set of house keys. It gives you the sense that you're not just an island somewhere but rather part of a collection of people who all rely on each other and can all support each other. It's a nice ideal to aspire to, but of course, it doesn't always come to pass. Sometimes the neighbors you have have no interest in being neighbors.

Either nobody taught them how, they're miserable and want to stay that way, or they just get off on the wrong foot with you. Any of the above could happen, and then before you know it, you're in a pseudo-war with them, and you're both just fighting to keep the peace. It can happen to the best of us, but it doesn't mean we're powerless when it comes to dealing with them. We have options we can choose from to handle these pesky neighbors and to handle them tactfully.
